Man held following violent resistance and five-day evasion
Police in Palamós have detained a 43-year-old man with nearly 70 prior criminal offences after he resisted arrest, attacked officers and barricaded himself inside his home with the help of his partner. The incident began on the evening of 2 October 2026, around 9 p.m., when a patrol from the Mossos d'Esquadra spotted the suspect in the Palamós and Sant Joan area. Officers recognised him as the subject of an active arrest and imprisonment order issued by the Penal Court of the Girona Trial Court for a theft committed on 26 March 2026. When approached and informed of the arrest, the man resisted, physically attacked the officers and fled on foot to his nearby residence.
Partner aids escape, officers injured
At the door of the property, the suspect’s partner waited and also physically assaulted the officers, helping him gain entry. The attack caused arm injuries to several agents. Once inside, the couple shouted insults and threats at the police from behind locked doors, preventing the arrest from being completed at the time. The man remained at large for five days, during which time both Mossos d'Esquadra and Palamós Local Police continued their search. On 7 October 2026, officers located the suspect again in the same area and successfully arrested him, executing the outstanding judicial order.
The suspect is a well-known figure to both local and regional police, having been arrested multiple times in the past for offences mostly committed in Palamós and Sant Joan.
He was formally charged with assault on law enforcement officers and making threats during the initial confrontation. His partner faces the same charges for her role in obstructing the arrest. The suspect appeared before the on-duty instruction court in La Bisbal d'Empordà on 8 October, where he was remanded into custody. According to police sources, the man has accumulated nearly 70 criminal records, making him one of the most frequently arrested individuals in the Baix Empordà region.
