Major Hashish Seizure and Arrests
Regional police, the Mossos d'Esquadra, have detained seven people and seized eight tonnes of hashish in a major operation targeting an organised crime group operating in Girona. The investigation began after officers discovered a large quantity of drugs in a vehicle detected this week close to the French border. The criminal network had been importing hashish, believed to originate from North Africa, via road routes and storing it in an industrial warehouse before distributing it across Europe using trucks and other vehicles. According to the Catalan High Court of Justice (TSJC), members of the organisation operated with a "functional distribution of tasks".
Judicial Measures Imposed
On Saturday, 4 October 2026, the Civil and Instruction Section of the Figueres Trial Court (Plaza 7) ordered provisional remand without bail for four of the detainees, identified as the alleged ringleaders. The remaining three are also in custody but may be released on bail.
The Mossos provide a strong police response against organised groups involved in drug trafficking.
Interior Minister Núria Parlon confirmed the intervention and reiterated the regional government's commitment to combating drug-related crime. She highlighted that the Mossos have dismantled 98 drug trafficking organisations so far this year.
Ongoing Investigation
The case remains open under investigation for public health offences and participation in a criminal organisation. Further details are being withheld as the judicial process continues. Authorities have not disclosed the exact location of the warehouse or the identities of those arrested beyond their roles within the network.
