Robbery with Violence Near Transport Hub
On 15 September at around 16:00, a man walking along Carrer Pedreres toward the AVE station in Figueres was approached by a group of youths who first asked if he smoked. After he declined, they blocked his path and brandished knives, threatening him into compliance. The attackers stole his wristwatch, a backpack containing a laptop, charger, clothes, sunglasses and personal items, a wallet with ID, bank cards and €150 in cash, and forcibly removed a necklace from his neck before fleeing into the Culubret neighbourhood, with one suspect warning the others to watch for police calls. The victim retained his mobile phone and immediately contacted emergency services by dialling 112 before reporting the incident at a Mossos d'Esquadra station. The robbery occurred in broad daylight along a route leading to a major transport link, raising concerns about public safety in the area.
Arrests and Recovery of Stolen Goods
The Mossos d'Esquadra launched an investigation that led to the identification and arrest of five suspects between 21 and 23 September. Those detained include one 18-year-old man and four minors. The Guàrdia Urbana of Figueres arrested one of the minors, while the Mossos carried out the remaining detentions.
The suspects are accused of robbery with violence and intimidation, a crime carrying significant penalties under Spanish law.
Investigators recovered most of the stolen property, including the laptop, charger, watch, wallet with personal documents and sunglasses. The total value of the stolen items exceeds €2,300, according to ElCaso.cat.
Judicial Proceedings Underway
The 18-year-old suspect, who has multiple prior police records, was presented before the on-duty investigating judge at Figueres court on 24 September. The four minors were released pending a summons to appear before the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office. Catalan police have not disclosed the nationalities of those involved. Residents are advised to remain vigilant, especially when travelling near transport hubs, and to report any suspicious activity to the Mossos d'Esquadra via the emergency number 112 or local stations.
