One in five vehicles checked received penalties

Enforcement was concentrated in the comarca of La Selva, with operations conducted on major routes including the AP-7 motorway, the N-II national road, and the C-35. The operation involved officers from the Girona Traffic Division, personnel from the Metropolitan North Regional Traffic Unit, and local security officers from Santa Coloma de Farners.

This one-day operation formed part of a broader, week-long safety initiative running from Monday 21 September to Sunday 27 September 2026. The campaign, led by the Mossos d'Esquadra and supported by local police forces, specifically targets distractions such as mobile phone use and failure to obey traffic signals. According to data from La Vanguardia, which accessed official Mossos records, fines for distracted driving in Catalonia rose by 36.57% between 2023 and 2025. In 2025, 27,603 such fines were issued across the region.
