Junts per Catalunya has formally accused President of the Generalitat Salvador Illa of misusing official government communication channels for partisan political purposes. The parliamentary group, led by spokesperson Salvador Vergés, has submitted two sets of questions to the Catalan Parliament demanding explanations over the use of institutional platforms.
The first set of questions concerns activity on the social media platform X. On Friday 2 October 2026, President Illa posted a personal message criticising Junts’ position on Spanish government housing decrees. Later that day, the official account of the Generalitat reposted Illa’s message. Junts sources have called this act 'intolerable', arguing that official government channels must serve all citizens and not be used for propaganda by the PSC.
The official account of the Generalitat must represent everyone, not promote partisan messaging.
In his written questions, Vergés asks why the official account, which operates under the slogan 'El Govern de tothom' (The Government of Everyone), shared content of a clearly political nature. He demands to know who authorised and executed the repost, and whether the government has decided to turn its official channel into a tool for PSC and PSOE political campaigns.
Use of PSC Headquarters for Emergency Alerts
A second set of parliamentary questions focuses on Illa’s conduct during a recent weather emergency. Last weekend, the president delivered an official message to the public about storm-related restrictions from the headquarters of the PSC in Barcelona, specifically at an event held at the Escola Feminista Dolors Renau.
Junts argues this blurs the line between institutional and party roles. The group maintains that when addressing citizens during emergencies, the president must act as head of the Generalitat, not as first secretary of the PSC. Vergés has asked why Illa did not make the announcement from the Palau de la Generalitat or another neutral venue, who made the decision to use the party headquarters, and whether the government considers it appropriate to issue public emergency communications from a partisan event.
The PSC headquarters is not an extension of the Palau de la Generalitat.
The controversy unfolds amid heightened political tensions following Junts’ rejection of national housing decrees, which Illa has publicly criticised as 'irresponsible' and a 'grave error' in statements reported by multiple outlets including Europa Press and ABC.
