Additional Bus Services to Compensate for Train Issues

The Catalan government's Department of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition has activated 49 additional interurban buses across Catalonia to manage increased demand caused by ongoing disruptions to Rodalies commuter rail services. The move aims to provide reliable alternatives for passengers unable to complete their usual rail journeys. These reinforcements come on top of an existing contingency plan initiated after heavy rains last Saturday caused infrastructure damage, particularly in the Vallès and Maresme regions. That earlier response had already mobilised up to 70 extra buses.

Reinforced Routes in Girona Region

In the Girona area, five key interurban bus lines are receiving extra services:

  • Caldes de Malavella – Girona
  • Breda – Hostalric – Girona
  • 603/618 Pineda de Mar – Calella
  • Lloret de Mar line
  • Ripoll – Vic

These additions are specifically targeted at corridors most affected by rail service interruptions.

Expanded Coverage on Key Rail Corridors

The R2 Nord rail corridor is seeing enhanced support with five discretionary services and six additional buses. On the Maresme route, extra departures are scheduled throughout the morning:

  • Seven additional services towards Barcelona between 06:00 and 09:00, with five return trips
  • Seven extra outbound services and nine returning between 09:00 and 12:00
  • Eleven more buses heading towards Barcelona between midday and 16:00

These measures are coordinated with transport operators and based on official communications from the Department of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition published on 7 October 2026.
