Three men aged 33, 46 and 51 were arrested in Cervera, Tàrrega and Guissona between 7 and 11 August during plain-clothes operations by Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's regional police. The arrests followed alleged sales of hashish and cocaine in public streets in Segarra and Urgell, according to reporting by Segre.
For residents in the three towns, the operations targeted suspected street-level drug sales and consumption. The Mossos' Segarra-Urgell local police area uses non-uniformed urban-crime officers to prevent the sale and use of narcotic substances in the two counties.
- On 7 August, a 46-year-old man was arrested on Avinguda Catalunya in Cervera after officers reported seeing an alleged exchange of a piece of hashish for €50.
- On 8 August, officers arrested a 51-year-old man in Carrer Mestre Güell, Tàrrega, after they reported seeing a bag left on a window ledge and collected after a €50 payment. The bag contained cocaine.
- On Monday 11 August, a 33-year-old man was arrested in Carrer Pau Casals, Guissona, after officers reported an alleged sale of a bag of cocaine for €60.
43 grams of cocaine seized in Guissona
In Guissona, the Mossos said the 33-year-old voluntarily handed officers a bag containing 43 grams of rock cocaine, valued at about €2,500, and €370 in cash which was at the entrance to his home.
All three men were brought before the investigating court on duty in Cervera, Segre reported. The arrests concern alleged offences against public health, the legal classification commonly used in Spain for drug-trafficking offences.
