109 Free Concerts Across 16 Stages
Barcelona’s La Mercè 2026 festival will present 109 free concerts from Wednesday 23 to Sunday 27 September, with performances held across 16 stages in 14 city locations. The event, organised by the Institut de Cultura de Barcelona, aims to reflect the city’s cultural diversity through music from around 30 countries. According to the official programme published by betevé, the festival will showcase a wide range of genres, from classical and rock to hyperpop and habanera. Anna Lleó, head of Festes i Tradicions at the Institut de Cultura de Barcelona, said the line-up embodies "the cultural diversity and richness of accents that define today’s Barcelona".
Major Acts and Surprise Performance
Headlining artists include Leire Martínez, Nacho Vegas, Miki Núñez, Svetlana, Els Amics de les Arts, Els Catarres, Buhos and La Pegatina. One act will remain undisclosed until performance time, organisers confirmed during a press briefing. Bogatell Beach will host major concerts, including the Nit Mediterràniament d’Estrella Damm, featuring popular Catalan acts such as Al·lèrgiques al Pol·len, La Pegatina and Svetlana. Avinguda de Maria Cristina will see performances by Maria Jaume, Els Amics de les Arts, Els Catarres and Teràpia de Shock, alongside a surprise artist revealed only on stage.
Dedicated Programmes for Emerging Talent
Música Mercè, under the final artistic direction of Gisela Sais, will present 34 concerts that blend traditional music with electronic experimentation and contemporary improvisation. This year’s edition includes three acts from Shanghai, the invited city, highlighting an expanded international presence that also includes artists from Senegal, Portugal and the United States.
The 2026 edition marks a commitment to gender equality, cultural diversity and youth engagement.
BAM (Barcelona Acció Musical), now led by Marta Mei and Aina Pociello, will deliver 39 performances focused on emerging local and international talent. BAM – Acció Cultura Viva celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, maintaining its community-led governance model from Fabra i Coats in Sant Andreu.
Gender Equality and Budget
The music programme has a total budget of €184,000. According to data from the Institut de Cultura de Barcelona, 46% of BAM projects are led by women, while Música Mercè’s line-up (excluding radio stages and Nou Barris orchestras) features 35.3% female-led acts, 38.2% male-led and 26.5% mixed groups. Concerts will take place at established venues including the Teatre Grec, Avinguda de la Catedral, Passeig dels Til·lers in Parc de la Ciutadella, Plaça de Sant Jaume and Jardins del Doctor Pla i Armengol. The Distrito de Nou Barris will serve as the epicentre for symphonic music.
