AnoiaDiari reported that Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia’s regional police force, arrested a 24-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman after assaults during Capellades Festa Major at the weekend. The man is accused of breaking another man’s nose.

The woman was arrested on suspicion of illegal possession of weapons and disobeying authority, according to the report. She was subsequently released because she is pregnant.

For Capellades residents and people attending the remaining programme, the immediate consequence is that the groups behind the Bingo Musical say they will not take part in further night-time events in the town. They have called a public gathering for 20:00 on Monday in plaça de Missa, officially plaça de Mossèn Cinto Verdaguer.

Bingo Musical was organised by four local groups

The event was organised by Gegants de Capellades, Club Futbol Capellades, Club Futbol Sala Capellades and Capellades Hoquei Club. The Ajuntament de Capellades festival programme also lists the Saturday night supper and bingo as an activity run by the football, futsal, hockey and giant-figure groups.

According to accounts from several witnesses cited by AnoiaDiari, a group entered one organisation’s tent intending to take money from the cash box. The report said an argument with organisers inside the tent developed into physical assaults on several people, and that one person displayed a bladed weapon.

“Neither the contracted security nor, still less, the local police ensured safety in the square.”

The organisers made that statement in a communiqué reported by AnoiaDiari. They said they would not participate in any more night-time events in Capellades.

Gathering called in plaça de Missa

Local social, neighbourhood and political groups have expressed support for the affected organisations on social media, AnoiaDiari reported. The rejection gathering is scheduled for 20:00 on Monday at plaça de Missa, also known by its official name, plaça de Mossèn Cinto Verdaguer.
