Fire breaks out in Malloles industrial estate
A significant fire broke out in the Malloles industrial estate in Vic, Osona, shortly before 8pm on Monday 28 September 2026. The incident, reported to emergency services at 19:52, involves three interconnected warehouses belonging to a meat-processing company, each approximately 100 metres long and 25 metres deep. The blaze was fully developed upon arrival of emergency crews, according to the Generalitat’s fire service. The main structure is partially collapsed, and firefighters are operating defensively from the exterior to prevent the fire spreading to adjacent industrial units.
Major emergency response deployed
More than 90 firefighters from 44 units of the Generalitat’s Bombers have been mobilised, including specialist teams such as the GREC (Collapsed Structures Group), GRIT (Technological Incidents Group), and GROS (Operational Support Group). The operation includes 18 water vehicles, three aerial ladder trucks, coordination units, and a drone unit from the Air Assets and Technical Operations Unit. A command centre has been established on site to coordinate the emergency response. The regional Civil Protection agency has placed the PROCICAT emergency plan on pre-alert status and notified an industrial safety technician from the Department of Industry.
The priority is to prevent ignition of two ammonia tanks, each with a 2,500-litre capacity, located on the ground and first floor of the building.
Multiple agencies on scene
Alongside firefighters, personnel from Mossos d’Esquadra (regional police), the local police, Guardia Civil, and the SEM (Medical Emergencies Service) are present. The SEM has deployed two preventive ambulances and treated one firefighter for minor injuries, who was released at the scene. The Red Cross, coordinated by Civil Protection, has provided a supply vehicle to support emergency crews. The 112 emergency line received around 100 calls related to the incident.
Road closures and ongoing situation
Access to the Montserrat street in Vic has been cut off due to the fire. The blaze remains active, with no official statement yet on its cause or when it will be fully extinguished. Residents and businesses in the area are advised to follow instructions from emergency personnel and avoid the industrial estate.
