Half-million-euro resurfacing plan begins Monday

The Ajuntament d'Olot (town council) will begin a new road resurfacing programme on Monday 19 October 2026, investing nearly half a million euros, double the amount spent in previous years. The work will target 18 streets and urban routes, covering more than 9,200 square metres of road and pavement. Key areas set for full asphalt renewal include Plaça Balmes and Plaça Palau. Other locations scheduled for repairs are the road to Les Tries, sections of Carrer Pollancre, Carrer Rocacorba, and the Sant Joan de les Abadesses road. The project is expected to be completed within three months.

Enhanced street cleaning and waste collection

Alongside the roadworks, the council has committed over €400,000 to improve street cleaning and waste management services this year. Five new measures have been introduced, including manual street sweeping with auxiliary vehicles in residential neighbourhoods, an intensive cleaning team, and the appointment of a dedicated waste inspector. The bulky waste collection service has been expanded to operate six days a week, from Monday to Saturday. In the first half of 2026, nearly 200 tonnes of illegally dumped waste were removed from public areas, with over half of that attributed to illegal dumping.

The council has also approved its 2026 budget of €54.5 million, with additional funding allocated for sports and educational facilities, social services, and a new bike lane connecting Pla de Dalt to the INS Garrotxa and Olot’s comarcal hospital.

Next steps for residents

Residents are advised to monitor local signage for road closures and waste collection changes. The resurfacing work begins 19 October and will be carried out in phases to minimise disruption. More information on the urban improvements programme is available via the Ajuntament d'Olot’s official website.
