Mónica Naranjo headlines milestone concert
Pop singer Mónica Naranjo performed a career-spanning concert on Saturday night at the Guíxols Arena as part of the Festival de la Porta Ferrada in Sant Feliu de Guíxols (Baix Empordà), marking 30 years since the launch of her music career.
The Figueres-born artist took the stage with a full band, backing vocalists and dancers for her ‘Greatest Hits Concerts’ tour, delivering powerful renditions of signature songs including ‘Desátame’, ‘Sobreviviré’, ‘Europa’ and ‘Empiezo a recordarte’.
The performance opened with ‘Fama’, the single that launched her anniversary celebrations, and featured bold lighting design, choreography and multiple costume changes reflecting different phases of her artistic journey.
"Arribada a una edat, m’he adonat que no soc la mateixa, però jo segueixo tenint 25 anys," said Naranjo, adding, "Madurar hem de madurar tots, però no molt, que si no ens podrim."
Naranjo addressed the audience throughout the show, occasionally speaking in Catalan, and reflected on the significance of revisiting three decades of work. Her voice remained the central focus of the production from start to finish.
Soleá Morente opens with eclectic flamenco fusion
Earlier in the evening, Soleá Morente, daughter of renowned flamenco singer Enrique Morente, delivered an opening set blending traditional flamenco roots with contemporary pop, rock and electronic elements.
Her diverse sonic palette and relaxed stage aesthetic helped warm up the crowd ahead of Naranjo’s main event, contributing to the festival’s broad musical range.
Festival leadership praises programming diversity
This year marks the 64th edition of the Porta Ferrada Festival and the first under new management by Barcelona Events Musicals, the promoter behind the Cruïlla festival, following a public tender awarded last autumn by the Sant Feliu de Guíxols town council (Gerió Digital).
Víctor Partido, the festival director, described the edition as “positive”, highlighting both the diversity of acts and audiences. He noted growing demand for high-impact live experiences: "La gent cada vegada vol una millor experiència i nosaltres el que hem d’oferir una experiència sònica, musical, de potència".
He cited recent performances by Siloé and Rigoberta Bandini as examples of internationally viable stage productions now accessible in Sant Feliu de Guíxols.
Partido defended higher ticket prices only when justified by the scale and quality of the artistic offering, advocating for music that is both transversal and accessible.
Festival continues through next week
The Festival de la Porta Ferrada continues until next Wednesday, with upcoming events including Vladimir Cauchemar at Sala Las Vegas and Clara Peya at the Teatre Auditori this Sunday, followed by Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals at Guíxols Arena on Wednesday.
