Filmgoers in Vilafranca del Penedès can attend two further screenings from the Festival Itinerant de Cinemes Africans de Catalunya (FICAC), the travelling African cinema festival, at Sala Zazie this weekend. The programme continues at 21:00 on Friday 2 October and 17:00 on Saturday 3 October, after opening on Thursday evening.

According to RTVVilafranca, the local programme is being presented for a fifth year by the Ajuntament, the town council, and Cineclub Vilafranca.

Two screenings remain at Sala Zazie

  • Friday 2 October, 21:00: Memory of Princess Mumbi, a Kenyan-Swiss co-production directed by Damien Hauser.
  • Saturday 3 October, 17:00: The Legend of the Vagabond Queen of Lagos, by the Nigerian young filmmakers’ collective Agbajowo.
  • Sunday 4 October, midday: Festuc Teatre will perform the puppet show The Jungle Girl at Cal Bolet as part of the Xarxa children’s programming.

The first film, Senegalese director Angèle Diabang’s Une si longue lettre, was screened at Sala Zazie on Thursday 1 October.

Festival backed by cooperation organisations

FICAC is promoted by the Fons Català de Cooperació al Desenvolupament, a Catalan fund supporting development cooperation, and the CinemÀfriques association. Its Vilafranca stop also has their collaboration, RTVVilafranca reported.

The festival’s organisers describe FICAC as a travelling programme of African cinema. Its earlier editions have staged screenings across Catalonia, with the programme intended to bring African filmmaking to local audiences and challenge stereotypes about the continent.

Residents planning to attend can go to Sala Zazie for the two remaining film sessions at the published times. The family puppet performance is scheduled for midday on Sunday at Cal Bolet.
