Agents of the Mossos d'Esquadra have arrested a man in Palamós after he allegedly stole a rental car in Barcelona and removed licence plates from another vehicle in Sant Adrià de Besòs to avoid detection.

The suspect took the rental car from central Barcelona and drove it to Sant Adrià de Besòs, where he reportedly stole number plates from a second vehicle to mask its identity. Police tracked him to Palamós, a coastal town in the province of Girona.

Stolen Goods Recovered

During the arrest, officers found the stolen car and discovered additional items taken from five other vehicles. These belongings were recovered at the scene and are being cross-referenced with local theft reports.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities assess whether the suspect is linked to further vehicle break-ins across the region.

Broader Pattern of Vehicle Crime

Last year, the Mossos detained two men in L'Hospitalet for stealing two rental cars parked in a private facility in Sants-Montjuïc, Barcelona. Both suspects had 32 prior criminal records combined. In a separate crackdown, six individuals with nearly 200 previous offences between them were arrested in connection with organised car thefts.
