Artists from Dominican Republic and Catalonia to showcase shared heritage
The collective exhibition 'Confluències entre el Carib i Catalunya' will open at Castell de Vila-seca on Friday 4 September, running until 4 October in the Sala Kies. The show brings together artists from the Dominican Republic and Catalonia in a cultural exchange celebrating shared identity, memory and artistic expression. Organised by the Ajuntament de Vila-seca (municipal council), with support from the Diputació de Tarragona, the Consulate General of the Dominican Republic in Barcelona and the Institut de Dominicans i Dominicanes a l'Exterior (INDEX), the exhibition aims to strengthen ties between the two communities through contemporary art.
Featured artists and themes
Participating artists include Dominicans Iris Pérez Romero, Willy Pérez and Judith Mora, alongside Catalans Laura Álvarez Keller, a Vila-seca resident, Vicky Roldán and Queralt Osorio. The works on display include paintings and sculptures that explore themes such as the sea, migration, nature conservation and shared traditions. The exhibition creates a visual dialogue between Caribbean and Mediterranean cultural influences, inviting visitors to reflect on collective memory and cultural richness.
This project is a bridge between our two communities, built through art and mutual respect.
The initiative began in 2019 and has previously toured cities including Santo Domingo, Barcelona, Madrid, Tarragona, Cambrils and Salou, reinforcing its role as a sustained cultural link.
Inauguration and access
The opening ceremony will be hosted by Manuela Moya, councillor for Culture, Leisure and Knowledge; Antonio Gómez, Consul General of the Dominican Republic in Barcelona; and Consuelo Velázquez, the exhibition's commissioner.
