Annual Ceremony to Honour Catalan Culture
The city of Cornellà will commemorate Catalonia's National Day, known as Diada, on Friday 11 September, beginning at 11.30 a.m. at the '11 de Setembre' sculptural ensemble in Plaça de l'Església. The event, organised by the Ajuntament de Cornellà, will conclude around 1.30 p.m. and is open to all residents, civic associations and political groups. Residents are invited to attend a traditional programme of sardana dancing and music, starting with a performance by the Cobla Maricel from Sitges. The morning will open with a sardana session hosted by Amics de la Sardana de Cornellà, setting the cultural tone before official proceedings begin.
Official Acts Include Floral Tribute and Choral Performance
At noon, formal protocol events will begin. The Mayor and spokespersons from municipal political groups and trade unions will lead the city council’s floral offering at the monument. Civic organisations and local associations will then present their own floral tributes. Following the ceremonies, the Ball de l’Àliga de Cornellà will be performed. The Cant dels Segadors, Catalonia’s national anthem, will be sung by local choirs including Coral Nova Tardor, Coral Àuria, Coral Orfeó Catalònia and Coral Zetzània, under the direction of Coral Orfeó Catalònia. The commemoration will close with another sardana dance. The event celebrates the contributions of generations who have advanced Catalonia’s progress and defended collective and individual freedoms.
The Diada returns as a day to honour those who have worked for Catalonia’s progress and freedoms, with all citizens welcome to take part.
