Ten Years of Improved Connectivity
The FGC Rambla station in Terrassa is hosting an exhibition marking the 10th anniversary of the city’s metro extension, which launched on 28 July 2015. The project extended the Barcelona-Vallès line by 4.1 kilometres and added three new stations: Vallparadís Universitat, Estació del Nord, and Nacions Unides, connecting key city districts with high-capacity public transport. Previously, the line had ended at Terrassa Rambla. The expansion, delivered by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), followed 12 years of construction and an investment of €401 million. Engineers faced significant challenges, including tunnelling beneath century-old buildings, the Vallparadís Park, and existing RENFE infrastructure.

Xavier Cardona, Terrassa’s mobility councillor, visited the exhibition and reaffirmed that the new stations had fundamentally improved urban transport. Annual passenger numbers now exceed 6.28 million, confirming strong demand for cross-city rail links.
Exhibition Travels Across Stations
The exhibition will remain at FGC Rambla station before moving to other FGC stations in Terrassa. It is scheduled to be displayed at Vallparadís station in early October, followed by Estació del Nord and concluding at Nacions Unides, with each stop lasting approximately two weeks. The tour forms part of this year’s European Mobility Week celebrations. The original 2015 inauguration was attended by then-regional president Artur Mas, Terrassa mayor Jordi Ballart, and FGC president Enric Ticó. They rode the newly named train 113.02, dubbed 'Terrassa', which featured artwork by Conrad Roset.
