Solsona has confirmed the continuation of the 'Dama de la Catalunya Central' tradition, with a new representative taking on the role. During a ceremony at the regional theatre, Maria Garriga Viladrich, the outgoing 'dama' from Solsona, passed her representation to Júlia Pallarès Masdenpinós, the new local 'pubilla'.
The event saw the outgoing representatives bid farewell with a popular dance, marking a moment of transition for the cultural institution.
New Regional Representatives Named
The ceremony also recognised other selected candidates for the Central Catalonia region. Those distinguished with the characteristic red insignia include:
- Núria Sáez Torres, 'pubilla' of Central Catalonia and Puig-reig
- Oriol López Estatuet, 'hereu' of Central Catalonia and Monistrol de Montserrat
- Jordi Casafont Gorchs, first 'fadrí' of Central Catalonia and 'hereu' of Puig-reig
- Meritxell Fígols Ferrer, second 'dama' of Central Catalonia and 'pubilla' of Valldan
- Aniol Torreblanca Ara, second 'fadrí' of Central Catalonia and 'hereu' of Sant Fruitós de Bages
These individuals were chosen from a total of twenty participants who underwent written and oral tests. The tests were held at the Casal de Cultura i Joventut de Solsona. Albert Colell, president of the jury and Culture and Youth Councillor, highlighted the high standard of the aspirants, according to officials.
Culture and Social Cohesion Emphasised
Albert Colell, who is involved with the 'pubillatge' field, urged the new representatives to work towards promoting "culture as a tool for social cohesion". He also called on them to commit to local organisations that champion diverse and inclusive culture. The Jove Ballet Solsoní offered a short performance during the event.
The ceremony also included the entrance of Solsona's 'fadrí' and 'donzella', and a small gift was presented to the outgoing 'pubillatge' representatives. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the 'Pubillatge de la Catalunya Central', celebrated with a group photograph of title holders from previous years.
