Sant Cugat residents, pedestrians and people using prams or wheelchairs around plaça de Barcelona are set to gain continuous level-surface routes on Girona, Viñolas and Dos de Maig streets. The Ajuntament de Sant Cugat, the town council, has definitively approved the urbanisation project, budgeted at €491,239 and scheduled to take four months.
The council is responsible for promoting the works, which will complete the pedestrianisation of the three streets and connect the area between plaça de Barcelona, Can Quitèria and Francesc Moragas street.
Level surface to replace narrow pavements
Parts of the three streets already have a level surface, but other sections retain a vehicle carriageway and raised pavements. According to the approved project, the existing pavements are narrow, in poor condition and not accessible for people with reduced mobility or prams.
- Girona, Viñolas and Dos de Maig will become fully level-surface streets.
- The scheme is intended to give pedestrians more space, safety and comfort in the town centre.
- Residents, delivery vehicles and services already have access to the pedestrian route only at certain times.
Drainage work planned near Dos de Maig 21–23
The project also addresses rainwater run-off and flooding around numbers 21–23 on Dos de Maig street, where intense rainfall has caused repeated flooding. The planned measures include adjusting the level difference between Dos de Maig and Francesc Moragas, and installing rainwater collection grilles.
People driving or arranging deliveries in the area should take account of the existing restricted-access arrangement for the pedestrian route, which permits residents, loading and unloading vehicles, and services at specified times.
