Barcelona province recorded 34 of Catalonia's 80 traffic deaths in the first seven months of 2026, according to figures reported by Metropoli Abierta. Catalonia's total was 13% lower than in the same period of 2025.

The figures place Barcelona province at more than two-fifths of all recorded road deaths in Catalonia. For residents and drivers in Baix Llobregat, the local consequence is particularly acute: the comarca recorded eight fatalities on interurban roads, the highest total in Catalonia over the period.

City toll is separate from provincial road figures

The provincial total should not be confused with the separate count for the municipality of Barcelona. Barcelona City Council said that, by 30 July, 10 people had died in traffic collisions within the city during 2026.

The latest death cited by the council involved a 77-year-old man who was struck by a car at about 5.00am on 25 July at kilometre 12 of the Ronda Litoral, in the Morrot area of Sants-Montjuïc, travelling towards Llobregat.

Several officers from the Guàrdia Urbana's Central Traffic Investigation Unit, known as UCAT, attended and are handling inquiries to establish the cause of the collision, according to the Barcelona City Council notice. The council said the man's family was located and informed during the week of its 30 July announcement.

“Barcelona City Council reiterates its commitment to continue working to reduce road collisions and the number of people killed in traffic accidents in the city.”

UCAT's investigation concerns the collision on the Ronda Litoral at the Morrot section, at kilometre 12 in the direction of Llobregat.
