Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), Catalonia’s publicly owned railway operator, will suspend trains between Gràcia and Sarrià on the Barcelona–Vallès line from 11 to 23 August for track-renewal work.

Passengers using the S1, S2 and L6 services will be unable to travel by train through the five affected stations: Gràcia, Sant Gervasi, Muntaner, La Bonanova and Sarrià. FGC plans a replacement bus service between Gràcia and Sarrià and recommends other public-transport options for journeys within Barcelona.

Track between Gràcia and Muntaner to be renewed

The works involve a full renewal of the track between Gràcia and Muntaner. The project is valued at about €4 million, according to details published about the planned closure.

FGC expects a significant effect on users, but selected August because it is the month with the lowest passenger numbers on the line.

FGC said the replacement bus service is intended to “minimise” the disruption to passengers.

Replacement buses planned at affected stations

FGC has tendered for buses to link Gràcia and Sarrià while the railway is closed. The operator said it will carry out test journeys before the works begin to ensure the service is suitable and connects with arriving train services.

  • Replacement buses must carry at least 50 passengers and no more than 100.
  • The vehicles must be accessible for people with reduced mobility.
  • FGC plans for buses to be waiting at stations when trains arrive.

Passengers travelling on the S1, S2 or L6 between 11 and 23 August should use the Gràcia–Sarrià replacement buses or alternative urban public transport during the closure.
