Rodalies passengers travelling in Catalonia on Friday 31 July will face a reduced train service during a nationwide Renfe strike called by Sindicato Ferroviario - Intersindical (SF-Intersindical), a railway trade union.
The Departament d'Empresa i Treball, the Catalan Government department for business and labour, has set minimum Rodalies services at 66% during the morning and evening peaks. Outside those periods, 33% of the usual trains are due to run.
Peak-time trains to run at two-thirds of normal service
- 06:00 to 09:30: 66% of usual Rodalies trains.
- 17:00 to 20:00: 66% of usual Rodalies trains.
- All other times: 33% of usual Rodalies trains.
Commuters and other passengers should check whether their service is affected before travelling. Rodalies said real-time train information will be available through the Rodalies and Renfe apps and their websites, while its WhatsApp and X channels will be updated with incidents.
Road replacement services, including those used on the R3 line, will maintain their usual offer, according to Rodalies.
Union cites heat conditions and Renfe restructuring
The action is SF-Intersindical's third strike day of 2026. The union says it is seeking decent conditions for Renfe ticket inspectors and train drivers, particularly during the summer months.
The union says that inadequate air conditioning and a lack of clear measures for high temperatures in carriages leave "hundreds of passengers on the verge of heatstroke".
SF-Intersindical also opposes the sale of Renfe's freight division and the closure of railway workshops. Renfe is Spain's state-owned rail operator.
Passengers planning a journey on Friday 31 July should check the Rodalies or Renfe app before setting out, particularly if travelling outside the two peak-service periods.
