Replacement Buses Continue on R2 Nord Until 6 November
Passengers using Rodalies de Catalunya’s R2 Nord line between Barcelona, Mollet, Granollers and Sant Celoni will continue to face disruptions until 6 November 2026. The service alteration, in place since 14 September, affects the last two daily trains in the direction of Granollers Centre and Sant Celoni, which are being replaced by road transport. The substitute bus service operates Monday to Friday, including public holidays such as Monday 12 October, and is accessible using standard Rodalies tickets provided they have been validated at the origin station. Facilities for passengers with reduced mobility are available on the replacement buses. Rodalies advises travellers to consult updated timetables and designated bus stop locations before departure, particularly for late-night journeys. Official service updates can be found on the Rodalies de Catalunya website and via the Rodalies app.
Recent Disruptions Linked to Weather and Theft
The ongoing service changes follow a series of recent incidents affecting the network. Heavy rainfall in early October caused significant disruptions across several Rodalies lines in the Vallès region, prompting safety inspections and trial runs on empty trains to verify track conditions. On Wednesday, 7 October, train operations were further delayed after train drivers raised safety concerns following the storms. According to reports, the drivers’ union Semaf withheld approval until Renfe provided updated technical safety documentation. Once reviewed and accepted, services gradually resumed. Additionally, on Saturday 10 October, a cable theft between Mollet-Sant Fost and Montmeló stations caused delays on four lines: R2, R2 Nord, R8 and R11. The incident forced trains to run on a single track temporarily, increasing journey times. Service was restored by late morning.
Passengers are urged to check the latest travel information before setting out, especially for evening trips, as disruptions remain in effect.
The cumulative impact of weather damage, safety reviews and infrastructure crime has kept the Vallès Oriental rail network under strain, with mobility remaining a pressing concern for local commuters.
