Historical Reenactments and Heritage Events Across the City
From Thursday 8 to Sunday 11 October, Reus will transform into a living museum of modernist culture during the fourth edition of Reus 1900. Festa Modernista. This year’s event marks the centenary of the death of Reus-born architect Antoni Gaudí i Cornet, making him the central theme of the festivities. More than 100 actors and performers will take to the streets, bringing historical scenes to life in key locations including Plaça del Mercadal, Plaça Prim, Carrer Monterols and Carrer Llovera. The city centre will become an immersive stage, recreating daily life from the turn of the 20th century while highlighting Gaudí’s roots and legacy.
Special Performances and Open Heritage Sites
The Gaudí Centre will host an immersive experience titled “Un temps, moltes veus. Vides i oficis en temps de Gaudí”, developed with the Escola de Teatre i Cinema de Reus, giving voice to period characters connected to the architect. At the Jardins de la Casa Rull, a new monologue performance “Tornant a Reus” will depict an elderly Gaudí making a final visit to his hometown. Families can join themed workshops such as “Papallones Modernistes: colors, volum i ales!” and “Les fulles que inspiraven a Gaudí”, both at the Gaudí Centre. Additional accessible visits with audioguides and inclusive adaptations will be available. Participating heritage sites include Palau Bofarull, Casa Navàs, Casa Gasull, Institut Pere Mata, Taller d’Hipòlit Montseny, Escola Prat de la Riba, Estació Enològica and the Campanar.
This year’s festival places special emphasis on connecting citizens with Gaudí’s personal and creative journey through lived experiences across the city.
Mataró Joins as Guest City
Mataró is the invited city for this edition, recognised for its early architectural collaboration with Gaudí. The Nau Gaudí, completed in 1883 for the cooperative society L’Obrera Mataronesa, was one of his first structural experiments using parabolic arches. Its inclusion strengthens regional ties and expands the cultural dialogue around modernism. The official festival poster, designed by Elisabeth Tort, features a relic and a manuscript extract from the Gaudí Archive held at the Museu de Reus – La Llibertat, reinforcing the documentary link to the architect’s legacy.
How to Take Part
Residents and visitors are invited to attend free public events throughout the weekend. Full details of timings, locations and booking requirements for specific activities are available via the Ajuntament de Reus official notice and the Casa Navàs programme page.
