Festival Promotes Mataró’s Rural Identity
The 2 Terços Festival returns to Mataró from 14 to 25 October 2026, showcasing the city's often-overlooked agricultural landscape through a diverse cultural programme. Now in its sixth edition, the festival aims to reconnect residents with the natural and farming heritage surrounding the urban area, including the Cinc Sénies, Mata and Valldeix zones. Under the theme "Gaudir la terra amb els cinc sentits! Toca, olora, tasta, escolta i mira" (Enjoy the land with all five senses! Touch, smell, taste, listen, and look), events will take place across farmland, vineyards, rural houses and hermitages, transforming the countryside into a living cultural stage.
The festival uses culture as a tool to highlight Mataró’s agricultural sector and foster local pride in its natural heritage.
Artists and Activities Across the Countryside
The line-up includes performances by Judit Neddermann, Jordi and Xavier Bosch, Anna Roig, Carles Belda, Marian Barahona and Miquel Gil, alongside music, poetry, dance, gastronomy and guided walks. Organisers say the aim is for audiences drawn by well-known names to also discover local producers, ecological farms and historic rural sites such as Can Soler, Can Noè and Can Montasell. Heidi Pérez, the city councillor overseeing the initiative, described culture as a bridge to engage people who might not otherwise visit these areas. "Culture is a tool that helps us show what we want to highlight, such as the entire agricultural sector," she said.
Rocafonda Community Projects Continue
Meanwhile, community activities continue in the Rocafonda district. The Centre Cívic Rocafonda is running the 'Circuit 08304' project to preserve local memory, including the story of resident Isidre Fabrés. The "Mataró Sona" music initiative is also active in the neighbourhood, and a new discovery route to the Parc Forestal has been launched. Residents can access local support at the Centre Cívic Rocafonda, Carrer Poeta Punsola, 47, on Tuesday mornings, or by appointment via [email protected] or 600 78 30 32. The ongoing urban renewal in Rocafonda, El Palau and Escorxador, supported by a €6.91 million grant from the Generalitat de Catalunya, includes park upgrades, social facilities and infrastructure improvements, with joint funding from the Ajuntament de Mataró.
