Party renews independence call on 1-O anniversary

Junts has marked the ninth anniversary of the 1 October 2017 independence referendum by reaffirming its commitment to Catalan independence and declaring its members are willing to "pay the price again" to defend freedom. In a statement issued on 30 September 2026, the party described the 2017 vote as "democratic, legitimate and binding," insisting that neither police action, court rulings nor repression could erase its mandate (S1, S2, S3). The party reiterated that the result of the 1-O referendum "remains alive" and continues to guide its political mission. Junts stressed that full normalisation in Catalonia would only be possible through independence, which it says is essential to safeguard the Catalan language, welfare state and social cohesion.

Demand for full amnesty law implementation

Junts demanded the "full and complete" application of the amnesty law, calling for the restoration of full political rights for all those penalised in connection with the independence process. The party specifically highlighted the cases of its president, Carles Puigdemont, and former ministers Toni Comín and Lluís Puig, who remain outside Spain (S1, S2, S3). The party accused parts of the Spanish judiciary of obstructing the amnesty process through "resistance and prevarication," a claim echoed in a parliamentary resolution submitted by Junts and other pro-independence groups (S4). Junts argued that Spanish state repression would only end with independence, condemning what it described as forced integration, economic exploitation, and institutional and social Catalanophobia.

"Nine years on, we reaffirm that Catalan independence is the only project that guarantees the future of our language, the sustainability of the welfare state and our social cohesion, which are increasingly at risk,"

the party stated in its 30 September communication (S1, S2, S3).
