La Mercè 2026 Brings Culture to Nou Barris

Nou Barris will host a full local programme for La Mercè 2026, featuring concerts, food events and puppet shows from Friday 25 September. The festivities align with Barcelona’s city-wide celebrations, which this year distribute over 100 free events across all ten districts to promote cultural decentralisation. The main concert series takes place at Plaça Major de Nou Barris. The Orquestra i Cor del Gran Teatre del Liceu perform there on Friday. On Saturday, the Banda Simfònica de Roquetes and Banda de Mollet play at midday, followed by the Banda Municipal de Barcelona in the afternoon. The OBC performs Friday evening, while Orquesta de VOZES and pianist Marco Mezquida close the music programme on Sunday.

Taste of Local Gastronomy

A new addition to the festival is Tasta Nou Barris, a free food and wine event showcasing five local establishments. It runs on Friday 26 September from 12:00 to midnight in the courtyard of the district headquarters at Plaça Major de Nou Barris, 1. No prior registration is required. The event features Catalan wines, live music and informal dining, aiming to strengthen community ties through local gastronomy. According to La Ciutat, the initiative reflects a deliberate effort by the district to expand cultural offerings beyond traditional concert formats.

Puppetry and Community Events

The puppet festival La Titellada, organised by Associació Titellaire de Roquetes and Centre Ton i Guida, runs from Tuesday 29 September to Sunday 4 October in various neighbourhood spaces. It begins with a talk on Friday 25 and a creation workshop on Monday 29, followed by daily puppet performances. Local civic centres also contribute throughout the week. El Generador 9B hosts a punk concert at Can Basté on Friday. The Centre Cívic Zona Nord presents a circus show on Saturday. Environmental activities take place at Casa de l'Aigua de Trinitat Nova and Castell de Torre Baró. Residents can attend large-scale concerts, family-friendly workshops or explore local cuisine, all part of the district’s strategy to deliver an accessible, participatory cultural calendar.
