Reus, Tarragona, saw a fire at an improvised settlement on Saturday, 23 May 2026, after months of complaints from nearby residents about living conditions and alleged illegal activity. The site was on Raseta de Sales street, next to Raval de Robuster.
According to local reports, the settlement had been in place since January and included tents, mattresses and discarded appliances. Neighbours had raised concerns about cohabitation problems, unsanitary conditions and possible drug dealing at the site.
The fire brought renewed attention to those long-running complaints in the Reus area. Residents had repeatedly reported the situation to authorities, saying the condition of the site had worsened over time.
Local officials are expected to deal with the aftermath of the fire and the wider issues linked to the former settlement. For more local coverage, see our news tag.
