A woman has been seriously injured after being shot in the head during an incident in the Bon Pastor neighbourhood of Figueres in the early hours of Sunday, 11 October 2026. She was initially taken to the Hospital de Figueres before being transferred to the Hospital Josep Trueta in Girona, where she underwent emergency surgery. According to initial reports, she is now stable and out of danger.

The Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia’s regional police force, were alerted around 3:30am by hospital staff after the woman arrived with a gunshot wound. Witnesses told officers she was on the street with a group of people during a birthday celebration when multiple shots were fired. One of the bullets struck her in the head.

Officers responded to the scene in Bon Pastor but found no suspects or additional victims. An investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances of the shooting and to identify the person responsible. Authorities are considering several lines of inquiry, including whether the shooting was intentional or accidental, such as while testing a firearm.

Police continue investigation

The incident marks another episode of gun violence in Catalonia, coming just two days after a shooting in Maspujols, Tarragona, linked to a suspected drug-related robbery in which two people were arrested. The current investigation remains active, with no arrests reported so far in the Figueres case.

The woman, of Roma ethnicity, is receiving ongoing medical care at Hospital Josep Trueta in Girona.

Residents in the Bon Pastor area are urged to come forward with any information. The Mossos have not released further details but confirm they are following multiple leads.
