Shooting Incident in Rocabruna Urbanisation

The Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's regional police, responded to reports of gunfire and threatening shouts at a property in the Rocabruna urbanisation in Maspujols, Tarragona, shortly before 10pm on Friday 9 October 2026. According to sources, a man armed with a handgun and a shotgun fired multiple shots during a confrontation inside the house, which is believed to be linked to an illegal cannabis plantation. One person was injured after being hit by a birdshot pellet, but their injuries are not considered serious. Neighbours reported hearing gunshots and raised the alarm by calling emergency services on the 112 number, triggering a swift police response.

Two Suspects Apprehended

Police units quickly cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. Two men were arrested later that night while attempting to flee along the L'Aleixar road. Inside the property, officers found bloodstains and three spent shell casings, confirming the use of both short and long firearms. A stolen vehicle was also discovered nearby.

This appears to be a drug-related robbery, what we call a 'narcoasalto', targeting illicit cannabis stock.

The Mossos have opened an investigation into the incident, which is ongoing. Authorities have not ruled out further arrests as part of the probe.

Weapons and Evidence Seized

During the operation, police recovered several firearms, including a short firearm and a shotgun used to fire birdshot. The weapons and other forensic evidence are being analysed as part of the criminal investigation. The exact number and type of weapons seized were not disclosed, but the presence of both handguns and shotguns indicates a high level of armed confrontation.

Residents in the usually quiet Rocabruna area remain unsettled by the overnight incident, highlighting growing concerns about armed crime linked to the illegal drug trade in rural parts of the Baix Camp region.
