Attack and Confession
On Sunday 4 October at around 10pm, police and emergency services responded to reports of a knife fight in the Sant Jordi block of the Sant Pere i Santa Pau neighbourhood in Tarragona. The call was made to the 112 emergency number, which mobilised both the Mossos d'Esquadra and the Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques (SEM). Emergency medical teams treated a man with superficial stab wounds. Although his injuries were not life-threatening, he was taken to hospital for further assessment as standard procedure. While officers were interviewing the victim, a 44-year-old man approached them and confessed to carrying out the attack. He voluntarily admitted responsibility and was immediately detained by regional police.
The suspect had no prior criminal record and acted entirely on his own initiative in surrendering.
Detention and Investigation
The man was held overnight at the local police station on suspicion of committing an assault with a bladed weapon. He has since been placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities, as confirmed by reporting from Tarragona21 and corroborated by ElCaso.cat. Mossos d'Esquadra have not disclosed the motive behind the incident but suggest it may be linked to drug-related issues. No further details about the relationship between the two men or the circumstances leading up to the attack have been released. The SEM operates across Catalonia under the public health system, managing urgent medical responses via the 112 line and providing telephone health advice through 061 Salut Respon. In the Camp de Tarragona region, the service deploys five Advanced Life Support Units (SVA) and 38 Basic Life Support Units (SVB), according to its 2020 activity report.
