Unanimous council vote seals membership
The full council of Mont-roig del Camp has unanimously approved the municipality’s accession to the Associació per l’Impuls Metropolità del Camp de Tarragona, a cooperative platform now comprising 16 town councils working towards a shared metropolitan model. The association, formally constituted in October 2025, began with seven founding members and has since expanded to include Mont-roig. Membership enables the town to participate in cross-municipal projects, coordinate policy strategies, and jointly pursue regional, national and European funding.
Goals: shared vision and strategic investment
The association aims to define a collective territorial vision, advance transformative infrastructure and services, and strengthen the region’s capacity to attract public investment. Its creation follows nearly two years of coordination by a steering group of mayors from the area. Mayor Fran Morancho defended the move during the council session, stating Mont-roig’s commitment to stable institutional cooperation. The official founding act took place on 31 October 2025 at Masricart Castle in La Canonja, with participation from Tarragona, Reus, Salou, Cambrils, Valls, Constantí and La Canonja as confirmed by laciutat.cat.
Separate vote on municipal finances
In the same session, the council approved Mont-roig’s 2025 general accounts. The budget settlement showed a net saving of €2.49 million, a treasury surplus of €8.19 million, and an adjusted budget result of €2.89 million. The municipal auditor’s report noted balanced financial and asset positions, with an average payment period of 25.85 days. The governing coalition of PSC and Plataforma Impuls Mont-roig Miami supported the budget, while ERC and Vox abstained and Junts opposed it.
