Force Strengthens with Diverse Intake

The Reus Municipal Police (Guàrdia Urbana de Reus) has incorporated thirteen new officers over recent months, bringing the total strength of the force to 176 personnel. The expansion includes four who completed basic training at the Institut de Seguretat Pública de Catalunya this summer under the 2024–2025 recruitment call; six transferred via interadministrative mobility under the 2025 vacancies process; and three assigned on temporary service. Four of the new recruits are women, reflecting ongoing efforts to balance gender representation in line with Catalonia’s Local Police Act, which reserves at least 30% of new positions for women. The city council confirmed that the current workforce now stands at 176, up from 162 earlier in 2024, following a series of phased incorporations.

City Leadership Welcomes New Recruits

On Monday 5 October 2026, Mayor Sandra Guaita and Councillor for Citizen Security and Coexistence Dolors Vázquez hosted a reception for the new officers at Reus Town Hall.

We urge you to work towards further improving the city’s safety levels based on prevention, collaboration, police presence, and active listening,

said Guaita during the event. This latest intake advances the city’s commitment to expand the Municipal Police to 182 officers by 31 December 2026, a target now expected to be met two years ahead of schedule. The expansion is part of the Municipal Action Plan (PAM) and an agreement between the Reus government and municipal worker unions.

  • Four new officers completed training at the Catalan Police School.
  • Six joined via interagency transfer under the 2025 recruitment process.
  • Three are serving on temporary assignment.
  • Current total: 176 officers.
  • Target: 182 by end of 2026.

The council has an open recruitment process for 20 additional officer positions, which will further boost staffing levels once selections are finalised and training completed.
