ERC members in Girona will vote on Saturday 17 October to decide whether Teresa Jordà or Etna Estrems leads the party's Girona list for Spain's 29 November general election, which will elect representatives to the Congress of Deputies, the lower house of the Spanish parliament.

The result will determine who heads ERC's slate in the Girona constituency, the candidate list that local voters will see at the general election. The party's internal campaign began on Sunday 11 October and will run until 16 October.

Girona primary follows uncontested selections elsewhere

Both Jordà and Estrems submitted candidacies for the top place in Girona, triggering a primary ballot, according to VilaWeb's report on ERC's internal process.

Gabriel Rufián, ERC's current spokesperson in the Congress of Deputies, has been confirmed as the party's lead candidate in Barcelona after securing backing from more than one-third of ERC's national executive members, the threshold set by the party's procedure.

Norma Pujol will lead ERC's Tarragona list, while Inès Granollers will again lead the list in Lleida.

ERC's timetable for finalising its election lists

  • 11–16 October: internal campaigning by Jordà and Estrems in Girona.
  • 17 October: ERC members in Girona vote in the primary to select their lead candidate.
  • 12–18 October: territorial party congresses choose the remaining candidates for the election lists.
  • 20 October: ERC's national executive is scheduled to draw up the final lists, which must then receive approval from the party's national council.

ERC has also named Francesc-Marc Álvaro as its lead candidate for the Spanish Senate, with the backing of the national leadership. Candidates for the remaining upper-house places are due to be selected at territorial congresses starting next week.
