Party membership vote imminent
Alhora will consult its members in the coming days on whether to stand candidates in the upcoming Spanish general election, scheduled for 29 November 2026. The decision follows an agreement made at the party’s 2025 National Congress, which established that participation in Spanish elections must be approved by the membership. The party has not taken an official position, acknowledging a diversity of views among its members. In a statement on its website, Alhora described these differing opinions as 'legitimate and valuable' and confirmed the consultation would take place over a short timeframe to meet the tight electoral calendar.
Candidate registration deadline looms
The deadline for submitting candidate lists falls at the end of October 2026, meaning Alhora must finalise its decision and announce the format and dates of the consultation shortly. The result will be made public once the vote concludes. As an extra-parliamentary party, Alhora would need to collect electoral endorsements (apoyos) if members vote to run. Under Spanish electoral law, this requires support from 0.1% of the electoral register in each constituency: approximately 4,500 signatures in Barcelona, 570 in Tarragona, 520 in Girona, and 425 in Lleida.
Focus remains on municipal strategy
Since its founding in 2024 by Jordi Graupera and Clara Ponsatí, Alhora has focused on grassroots organising ahead of the 2027 municipal elections. The party received 0.44% of the vote in the 2024 Catalan parliamentary election, failing to win representation. Recent activities include coordinating volunteer aid for areas affected by the DANA storms in the Valencian Country through its Voluntaris Catalunya initiative, campaigning against Renfe’s control of Rodalies commuter rail services, and promoting a dual educational network. Graupera reaffirmed the party’s municipal focus at its June 2025 congress, stating that building local leadership is key to bridging political and social movements in Catalonia.
