Party Targets Full Municipal Representation
Esquerra Republicana’s Ebre Federation has set a goal of fielding around 50 municipal candidates across the Terres de l’Ebre region by the 2027 local elections. The target was announced during its Institutional Coordinating meeting held in Gandesa on 26 September 2026, where party leaders began formal preparations for the upcoming electoral cycle. Albert Salvadó, president of the Ebre Federation and mayoral candidate in La Ràpita, stated the party aims to remain the political voice of the Terres de l’Ebre, independent of Barcelona or Madrid. He emphasized that ERC currently presents strong candidatures in all four comarcal capitals, Tortosa, Gandesa, Flix, and Amposta, and will work in the coming months to expand to approximately 50 municipal lists. Salvadó expressed confidence that Esquerra will win the most votes and municipal seats in the region in 2027.
Local Leaders Push Regional Priorities
Mar Lleixà, mayor of Tortosa, reaffirmed Esquerra’s commitment to placing people at the heart of local governance and called for stronger regional infrastructure, improved rail connections, and progress on the future Universitat Hospital de les Terres de l’Ebre. Joan Aubanell, ERC candidate in Gandesa and president of the Terra Alta County Council, reiterated opposition to the Generalitat’s PLATER renewable energy deployment plan, arguing that the Terra Alta comarca has already contributed disproportionately to the energy transition. He urged the government to revise the plan and allow other regions to take on similar responsibilities. Aubanell also highlighted ERC’s role in securing the Nuclear Transition Funds, stating they would not exist without the party’s advocacy. Francesc Barbero, mayor of Flix and president of the Ribera d’Ebre County Council, pointed to the challenges facing his region due to the closure of ERCROS and the future of nuclear plants. He credited Esquerra with driving tools for economic diversification and future development projects through municipal action and influence on Catalan and Spanish governments.

Barbero also renewed calls for the swift restoration of the medical helicopter service. He noted that the county council had proposed temporary use of a private airstrip in Garcia, but the Generalitat rejected it due to a required investment of just over €50,000.
