Palafrugell town council in Girona has launched a grant scheme to help cultural businesses and projects open in vacant commercial premises in the town centre. The programme has a budget of €20,000 and can cover up to 90% of the investment, with a maximum of €10,000 per project.

The council says the aim is to bring new cultural activity into Palafrugell’s commercial and historic centre, while also helping to bring empty shop units back into use. The scheme is intended to support artistic, creative and cultural presence in the town’s central streets throughout the year.

This call is part of the municipality’s wider plan to position Palafrugell as an artistic hub. That direction began with MAP25, the Palafrugell Art Exhibition, and continues through year-round activities, exhibitions and proposals under the MAP brand.

Applications are open to self-employed people, sole traders and companies that want to start cultural economic activity in premises within the designated town-centre area. The deadline for applications is 30 June 2026.

Eligible projects include craft workshops, art galleries, photography studios, specialist bookshops, publishers with sales spaces, vinyl and instrument shops, designer jewellery workshops, art supply stores, design and creative fashion spaces, and instrument construction and repair workshops, among other activities.

Grants will be awarded on a competitive basis. Projects will be judged on cultural interest, the quality and originality of the proposal, economic viability and their ability to create jobs. Investment linked to the purchase, construction, renovation or improvement of the premises may also be subsidised. For more local coverage, see our news tag.
