Services on the Rodalies R8 line between Cerdanyola UAB and Martorell have been suspended following the derailment of a freight train near Rubí station. The incident, which occurred without any injuries, also led to the re-closure of the Rubí tunnel, just a week after it reopened, according to officials.
The locomotive and the first carriage of a train travelling from Can Tunis to France left the tracks. Authorities confirmed the train was not carrying any dangerous goods. Adif, the railway infrastructure manager, has dispatched teams to the site to address the problem.
Service Disruptions and Alternative Transport
While efforts are underway to resolve the issue, the exact time for the resumption of services remains unknown, Adif stated. In response to the disruption, Renfe has extended its existing alternative road transport service for the R8 line to cover the affected section.
The cause of the derailment has not yet been determined. Investigations are expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident and inform future preventative measures.
