Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC) has selected Norma Pujol as its proposed lead candidate for the Congress of Deputies in Tarragona and Noemí Llauradó to lead its Senate ticket for Spain's general election on Sunday 29 November.
The nominations still require approval by ERC's national bodies on Tuesday 20 October. For voters in Tarragona's electoral district, the decision identifies the party's proposed leading candidates for the lower and upper houses of Spain's parliament before the campaign begins.
Party ratification is due on 20 October
ERC's National Executive has made the two selections, according to the party's candidate-selection timetable reported by Tarragona Digital. Territorial party congresses are due to choose the remaining candidates between Monday 12 October and Sunday 18 October.
- Norma Pujol is ERC's proposed lead candidate for the Congress of Deputies, Spain's elected lower chamber.
- Noemí Llauradó is ERC's proposed lead candidate for the Senate, Spain's upper chamber.
- ERC's National Executive is due to draw up the final lists on Tuesday 20 October.
- The party's National Council, which is also scheduled to meet that day, must approve the lists.
Pujol replaces Jordi Salvador at the top of the ticket
Pujol, from Flix in the Terres de l'Ebre area, is ERC's deputy secretary-general. She previously served as a member of the Congress of Deputies during the 2019–2023 parliamentary term, and has also been a councillor in Flix and director of the Institut per al Desenvolupament de les Comarques de l'Ebre, the public body for development in the Ebre counties.
She was second on ERC's Tarragona list at the 2019 and 2023 elections. Her proposed promotion follows Jordi Salvador's decision not to continue in institutional politics. Salvador had represented ERC in Madrid since 2015.
Llauradó, from Reus, is president of the Diputació de Tarragona, the province-level council, and deputy mayor of Reus under agreements with the Partit dels Socialistes de Catalunya (PSC), the Catalan Socialists' Party. She said in January that she would not stand again as her party's lead candidate in Reus.
ERC's final Tarragona lists are due to be submitted to its National Council for approval on 20 October.
