Alemany: Social Impact Through Inclusive Employment
Alemany, a honey and nougat producer based in Os de Balaguer with 25 employees, integrates social responsibility into its core operations by partnering with special employment centres such as Estel, Torxa and Ilersis. The company prioritises non-automated production processes to create job opportunities for people with disabilities, some of whom are recognised under the Spanish disability assessment system at levels exceeding 33%.
"We like to create connections: we seek alliances and synergies with nearby businesses," says Ferran Alemany, manager of Alemany. This approach extends to beekeepers and innovation through BeeLab, a green, sustainable and digitalised research lab focused on honey development.
The company is also advancing environmental sustainability by transitioning to sustainable electricity supply, replacing plastic materials with less polluting alternatives, using almond shells as biomass for its nougat boiler, and installing solar panels to heat water used in production.
Molins: Community, Education and Natural Capital
Molins takes a structured approach to social responsibility across two main pillars: community and people, and natural capital. Under the guidance of Laia Gelabert, sustainability director at Molins, the company supports educational initiatives in Catalonia through scholarships and training programmes, and contributes to social projects.
One of its standout environmental efforts is the Molins de Rei recharge ponds project, developed in collaboration with the Comunitat d'Usuaris del Delta del Llobregat and Damm. These ponds help improve the groundwater status of the Vall Baixa and Delta del Llobregat aquifer.
Both companies are featured on the Mapa d'Experiències RScat, an interactive platform by the Consell de Relacions Laborals de Catalunya (CRL) that highlights businesses with outstanding social and sustainability practices. The map aims to promote knowledge transfer and serve as a reference for other organisations.
Supporting Responsible Business Models
The CRL, composed of Catalonia’s leading trade unions, business organisations and the Generalitat, acts as a permanent space for social dialogue and agreement. It promotes responsible and sustainable business models aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and Agenda 2030.
Through RScat, the CRL provides free resources, management tools, training and guidance to help companies of all sizes incorporate social responsibility into their operations. These resources aim to foster more inclusive, sustainable and community-focused business practices across the region.
Businesses and workers can access these tools via the RScat programme portal, while the full list of featured initiatives is available on the interactive RScat map.
