Three Canadian police officers were arrested this week in Barcelona after a reported sexual assault on a sex worker inside a taxi in the Ciutat Vella neighbourhood.
One of the men, accused of sexual assault without penetration, remains in custody after appearing before a judge on Friday. Another officer was released but is under investigation for resisting authority during his arrest. The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday in central Barcelona.
According to El Periódico de Catalunya and confirmed by police sources to Europa Press, the victim reported that one man sexually assaulted her inside the taxi while another occupant hit her in the face when she tried to resist. A third man was in the front passenger seat.
Investigation Underway
The woman sought medical attention after the assault and filed a complaint with the Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's police force. They started an investigation to identify and locate those involved. Two suspects were arrested in Barcelona shortly after the incident.
The third man, identified as the one who physically assaulted the victim, fled Barcelona and was located and arrested on Friday in Palma de Mallorca. All three arrested individuals are Canadian citizens and, according to initial reports, serve as police officers in Canada. The investigation remains open and the case is currently with Barcelona's duty court.
