The 14th Born Street Food festival brought 16 restaurants to Pla de Palau square in Barcelona's Born neighbourhood, according to Betevé's on-site report. For local restaurants and food traders, the event offered a prominent public showcase during La Mercè, Barcelona's annual city festival.

The three-day event was organised by Associació Barcelona Born Gourmet, which aims to promote the Born as a leading food destination in the city. Its programme combined outdoor cooking, dishes from neighbourhood kitchens and live music.

Four venues joined the festival for the first time

Four of the 16 participating establishments were making their first appearance at the festival:

  • Espai Puntual
  • Bar Súper
  • Arcano
  • David Barroso, a butcher at Mercat de Santa Caterina

David Barroso offered a double smash burger, while Oaxaca served its cochinita pibil, a slow-cooked pork dish, with freshly made maize tortillas and a chilli sauce made with fresh chillies from its own garden.

“We make a double smash burger, and the key is the sauce. We have an incredible sauce,” David Barroso told Betevé.

New food workshops at El rebost

The main addition to this edition was El rebost, a space for tastings, workshops and cookery demonstrations led by local restaurateurs and businesses. Juan Carlos Arriaga, president of the Born Comerç traders' association, said organisers expected to enlarge the space at a future edition after its reception.

Markel Cormenzana of Espai Puntual said the initiative gave restaurants a place to share their work with neighbours and newer residents, through activities such as making wine and preserving food.

“It is a fantastic space to share, to learn, to make wine and to talk,” Cormenzana said.

Arriaga said the audience varied by day, with families particularly present on Sunday, and that most visitors were neighbourhood residents or other Barcelona residents. Betevé reported that attendance at the 14th edition increased.
