Winners Announced at Vegan Awards Ceremony

The Vapor de Prodis in Terrassa hosted the 2026 Barcelona Vegan Awards (BVA) gala earlier this week, recognising eleven winners across categories that promote vegan culture, ethics, and sustainability. Organised by the Associació Vegana de Catalunya, this marks the fourth edition of the awards, which continue to position Terrassa as a central hub for vegan advocacy in Spain. The ceremony served as a prelude to the upcoming Vegan Fest Catalunya, Europe’s largest outdoor vegan festival, scheduled to take place from 19 to 21 September at Parc de Vallparadís in Terrassa.

Local Officials Join Recognition Event

Xavier Cardona, deputy mayor and councillor for Trade and Markets in Terrassa, attended the event alongside Patrícia Reche, also a deputy mayor. Reche presented the award for Sustainable Company to Algamar, a Galician company founded in 1996 specialising in organic Atlantic seaweed for human consumption. Algamar was recognised as the first Spanish company dedicated specifically to edible algae with organic certification. Algamar competed against H Arquitectes, known for their sustainable rehabilitation of industrial spaces such as the Vapor Cortès in Terrassa, and Pack2Earth, a Barcelona-based firm developing biobased packaging materials that compost at ambient temperature.

These awards highlight how sustainability and ethics can drive innovation in business and culture across Catalonia.

  • Animal Rights Career: La Vedruna
  • Sustainable Fashion: Fitplanet, ahead of Clotsy Brand and Slowers
  • Vegan Cosmetics: Nahima Cosmética

El Vergel, winner in the restaurant category, opened in December 2014 in Tarragona’s old town and was the city’s first fully vegan eatery, offering homemade dishes prepared without fryers, microwaves or processed ingredients. Clotsy Brand, one of the fashion nominees, creates garments in workshops across Spain and Portugal using organic cotton, linen, Tencel, EcoVero viscose, and recycled fibres, prioritising local production and ethically selected suppliers.

Festival Preparation Underway

With the Barcelona Vegan Awards concluded, attention now turns to the Vegan Fest Catalunya, set to run from Friday 19 to Sunday 21 September at Parc de Vallparadís. The free public event will feature food stalls, talks, workshops, and live performances promoting plant-based living.
