Barcelona City Council has given final approval to an urban plan that will provide a permanent location for the Eixample Fire Station and allow for the construction of the Entença School in the city's Eixample district.
The April full council meeting passed the specific urban modification plan (MPGM) for the project. District councillor Jordi Valls highlighted the “strategic value” of the operation, noting it will also create more space for the expansion of Hospital Clínic and introduce additional green areas to the surroundings.
Cross-Party Support for Urban Project
The plan received support from the Socialist Party of Catalonia (PSC) government, Barcelona en Comú (BComú), and Republican Left of Catalonia (ERC). Junts abstained from the vote, while the People's Party (PP) and Vox voted against it. This outcome mirrors the results of the earlier committee vote.
Next, the Urban Planning Sub-commission of the Government of Catalonia must give its approval before the urban development can begin.
