Barcelona City Council has digitised 92% of its administrative procedures, allowing residents to complete 340 different processes online. This figure is set to increase, with the council aiming to make 95% of its services available digitally by 2027, according to officials.

This push for digitisation is part of the 'Barcelona Fàcil' (Easy Barcelona) plan, which started in late 2024. The plan aims to simplify and speed up administrative procedures and reduce bureaucracy. A follow-up meeting of the commission overseeing the plan was held on Monday, chaired by Daniel Sirera.

Among the new initiatives under the plan is the creation of the Professional Attention Office (OAP). This office will improve urban planning services for citizens. It is designed to be a direct communication channel between the City Council and professionals who need to carry out complex urban planning procedures. The OAP is expected to start operating in 2027.

Streamlining Urban Planning and Family Aid

The Professional Attention Office is one of 18 actions outlined in the municipal plan that are still under development. Six per cent of the plan's actions have already been completed. One notable change already implemented is the simplification of procedures for families applying for municipal grants for children's and teenagers' extracurricular and summer activities. From 2026, families will no longer need to reapply for this aid for each call, as a single application will cover the entire year.

Additionally, 33 other procedures have been digitised. These include permits for installing banners on public roads, requests for public space occupation licences for filming or photography sessions, and permits for installing cranes, scaffolding, and moving services. Measures are also being implemented to reduce urban planning regulations and simplify construction procedures.

Looking ahead, the City Council's continued focus on digitisation and simplification aims to make interactions with local government more efficient for both residents and professionals. The 'Barcelona Fàcil' plan is expected to continue rolling out its remaining initiatives over the coming years, with the 95% online target set for 2027.
