At least two people have been arrested after thefts and damage to cars were reported at around 15 communal garages in Vic between 16 and 23 August, according to Mossos d'Esquadra police information reported by El 9 Nou. The investigation remains open and police have not ruled out further arrests.
For Vic residents who use these garages, the incidents have meant finding smashed vehicle windows and interiors searched. Police did not state how many cars were affected, but said several vehicles with damage or thefts were found at each of the garages concerned.
The sites named by police include garages on Jaume I el Conqueridor, Miquel Martí i Pol, Pere Gallissà, Indústria and Bisbe Ató streets, as well as Rambla Montcada and Avinguda Sant Bernat Calbó.
Police advice for communal garage users
El 9 Nou reported that Vic residents were still raising alerts about thefts and damage during the week. Mossos d'Esquadra said vehicle break-ins more commonly occur in outdoor spaces at night, but urged garage users to strengthen security at communal access points.
- Wait until the garage door has closed completely after entering or leaving.
- Check that the vehicle is locked.
- Do not leave valuables visible inside the vehicle.
- Report any incident or suspicious activity to police.
