Amposta will hold its 2026 Festes Majors from Friday 7 to Sunday 16 August, with around 200 events planned across the city and a total solar eclipse on Wednesday 12 August shaping the programme. Residents and visitors will be able to use planned observation areas at the Oriola industrial estate and Eucaliptus beach, while the traditional bull runs will move from Avinguda de Sant Jaume to Avinguda Dr. Tomàs i Pujol.

The Ajuntament d’Amposta, the town council, said the programme combines concerts, popular culture, family events and youth activities. The eclipse also inspired the official festival poster, designed by ESARDI art and design school student Mireia Gestí.

“It is a diverse, participatory and high-quality programme, combining music, popular culture, traditions and family activities for all audiences and ages,” said Anna Tomàs, Amposta’s councillor for Festivities.

Eclipse night and headline music acts

The council said the Generalitat has named Amposta among the reference locations for viewing the 12 August solar eclipse. On that evening, the Federació de Comerç d’Amposta, known as FECOAM, will organise a community dinner followed by a dance with the Sèptima Avenida orchestra.

  • Friday 7 August: panoli distribution and the opening call by Sanfaina in the morning, followed by Quico el Célio, el Noi i el Mut de Ferreries at Plaça de l’Ajuntament.
  • Friday 14 August: Blaumut, billed by the council as the programme’s headline concert, will perform at the former swimming-pool car park, alongside a Txarango tribute.
  • Sunday 16 August: Manu Guix will close the festival with a performance presenting his new album, Galàxies.

Other announced music includes Divina’s i Divos on Monday 10 August, Beth during the 54th National Paper Dress Competition on Thursday 13 August, and the 80 PRINCIPALS concert with El+Pop on Sunday 9 August. The solidarity 80s and 90s disco party on Saturday 15 August will raise funds for the Associació de Familiars d’Alzheimer del Montsià, an association supporting families affected by Alzheimer’s in the Montsià area.

Band concert moved to 11 August

The 61st Popular Band Concert by La Lira Ampostina and La Unió Filharmònica will take place in Plaça de l’Ajuntament on Tuesday 11 August. The council said it was moved to avoid clashing with the eclipse, in agreement with both musical organisations.

Saturday 8 August will include the presentation of the 2026 festival representatives and the opening address by Manel de Ramón Ferré, who has longstanding links to Amposta Ràdio. A fireworks display and the Orquestra Junior’s dance will follow after midnight.

Traditional events also include the flower and fruit offering for the Mare de Déu de l’Assumpció, sardanes with Cobla Ciutat d’Amposta, and jota and punxonet dances by the Sanfaina dolçaina and drum group and Grup de Dansa Paracota on Saturday 15 August.

Family, youth and bull events across the city

For families, the council will reinstate its water-inflatable park at Parc dels Xiribecs on Wednesday 12 August. The free programme also includes a children’s 3x3 basketball tournament, the 36th gathering of giants and big-head figures, a children’s correfoc fire-run with the Minitaures devils group, street games on Carrer Major and a children’s rapid chess tournament.

Les Serenes will involve up to 440 young people in events organised jointly with the council, according to youth councillor Ariadna Tomàs. Activities include a community lunch and board-game tournament at Casal Cívic Ruiz Salgado on Monday 10 August, the greased-pole event by the riverside landing area on Tuesday 11 August, and a final dinner and white party at the same civic centre on Saturday 15 August.

A Punt Lila support point, intended to prevent and respond to sexual harassment or assault, will operate in the Zona Jove youth area and at other festival activities.

The bull-event programme will retain street and arena events, with the first procession from the Poble Nou del Delta bullring, across the bridge, on Friday 7 August. The final day, Sunday 16 August, includes a last bull run, an afternoon of arena events and a final bou embolat, in which fireballs are attached to a bull’s horns.

Residents and visitors can check the council’s Festes Majors programme for the published schedule and event information.
