Amposta ended its 2026 Festes Majors on Sunday 16 August after 10 days of events from 7 August, with the town hall reporting large attendance across concerts, family activities, traditional events and bull-running events.
For residents, the programme filled streets and public squares throughout the celebrations, while the solar eclipse on 12 August drew substantial traffic and crowds to the Eucaliptus area, Poble Nou del Delta and the Oriola industrial estate. The town hall said there were no significant incidents during the nights of the festival.
Fireworks and a concert by Manu Guix in the completely full Plaça de l’Ajuntament brought the programme to a close, according to the Ajuntament d’Amposta’s festival report.
Concerts, paper dresses and family events draw crowds
The programme included the opening address by Manel de Ramon, the Popular Dinner, the Popular Bands Concert, the National Paper Dress Competition, Carnabars, live music in Plaça de l’Ajuntament, dance nights, youth activities and children’s and family events.
Mayor Adam Tomàs said the range of events had been central to the festival’s attendance.
“We had highly participatory festivities, with many people in the streets and a very varied programme, with activities for all ages and tastes.”
Tomàs and the councillor responsible for festivals, Anna Tomàs, thanked the Festival Committee, Bull Events Committee, bullfighting supporters’ groups, Civil Protection, Local Police, volunteers, artists and municipal staff. The mayor said the safety operation had recorded no significant incidents during the festival nights.
Nearly 14,000 people at Eucaliptus for eclipse
The total solar eclipse on 12 August made Amposta a viewing point during the Festes Majors. Local Police and Mossos d’Esquadra, Catalonia’s regional police, recorded the largest concentration in the Eucaliptus area.
- Eucaliptus beach and residential area: nearly 14,000 people and about 4,800 vehicles.
- Poble Nou del Delta: about 1,800 people and 600 vehicles.
- Oriola industrial estate, designated as an official viewing point: about 1,800 people and 590 vehicles.
The town hall said the three locations together received about 17,600 people and 5,990 vehicles during the eclipse.
