The Alt Empordà Comarcal Archive has digitised over 6,000 pages of Darnius town council meeting minutes, making them available online. These documents cover a significant portion of the 20th century and part of the 19th century, with the earliest records dating back to 1847.
Residents and researchers can now access these records through the Arxius en Línia (Archives Online) portal. This initiative provides public access to essential documentation detailing major projects and political debates within the Darnius municipality over this period.
According to archive officials, the digitisation project included 24 council minute books. Additionally, the oldest preserved population registers for Darnius have also been digitised. These registers date from 1832, 1838, 1850, 1857, 1871, 1885, 1889, 1899, 1904, 1924, 1930, 1936, and 1940. This information is particularly useful for genealogical research.
Preserving Historical Records
Archive officials highlighted the importance of digitisation for document preservation. They stated it "is a resource that contributes to the preservation of original documents, as it offers an alternative copy for consultation and, at the same time, allows for a duplicate to be kept in a secure repository."
This ongoing effort by the Alt Empordà Comarcal Archive aims to protect historical records while expanding public access to Catalonia's heritage.
