The Catalan government has voiced its complete trust in the Mossos d'Esquadra police force and its commanders, following controversy over agents infiltrating a workers' assembly in Barcelona. The incident involved employees of the Consorci d'Educació del Barcelonès, days before a planned strike.

Officials stated that "all decisions are made from an operational point of view." They added that "it is the police commanders who decide on proportionality without any political directive. There must be essential autonomy."

Police Action Defended

The government also affirmed that "the right to strike must be guaranteed" and that "action linked to security must be proportional and timely." This defence comes amid questions about the appropriateness of police presence at a pre-strike meeting.

The Consorci d'Educació del Barcelonès is a public body responsible for educational services in the Barcelona area. The infiltration occurred in the days leading up to a workers' strike, raising concerns among unions and employee representatives about surveillance during labour disputes. The government's stance suggests a firm belief in the operational independence of the police in such matters.
